Spring is here and while this means better weather for all those fun activities you enjoy with your pet; it also brings higher pollen counts and allergies. But don’t stress, here’s your guide to identifying allergies in your pet!

1. Itchy Skin.

Your pet picks up allergens from outside, the allergens attach to their coat, tummy, and paws, and can even get inside their ears and nose.

This means your dog and cat may excessively lick and scratch at their skin – and in more severe cases, they will begin to bite and chew their paws ( & they may also use the furniture to hit that sweet spot!)

2. Sneezing, coughing and a runny nose.

Often cats and dogs can experience human-like allergy symptoms and will cough sneeze, have a runny nose and even watery eyes.

3. Itchy ears

You may find your dog is constantly shaking their heads, this is due to itchy ears. This is very common during the spring – and can often lead to an ear infection.

4. Hair loss

Skin allergies can cause your dog or cat to scratch, lick, chew, and bite their skin so frequently that they may lose hair. Your pet will begin to lose fur on its feet first if it is sensitive to grass seeds. Your cat's skin may be inflamed if you start to notice a thinning of its coat. Cats tend to overgroom when they are itching.

There are some things that can be done to ease the burden allergies pose on your pet, these include baths, antihistamines, and creams.

If you’ve identified these symptoms in your pet, it's best to head to your vet to get your fury friend back to normal in no time!!!
